Get off of ChatGPT, babe.

Your friend Chat is not going to like my blog post.

Your real friends may also not like my blog post.

As usual, I am reaaaaaaaaaaaady!

Ok, give me a little information here. Why do you utilize ChatGPT?

Some folks use it to find their correct coloring, hair, and make-up. In a pinch? Sure.

Some use it to choose the right rug or curtains for their living space. Quick opinion? Alright.

Some use it to research ailments that they may need to address with their doctor. Narrowing it down? Okay…

And…some use it for therapy.

Ugh. No. Not that please.

Since as early as 1897, human interaction has been studied as pivotal to reducing isolation, depression, and suicidality*.

Oh, what the researchers would think of us today.

And no, typing on screens does not equate to social interaction. Screens reduce personable skills from being utilized (non-verbal cues, empathy and attunement, etc.).

Pew Research Center reported that over a ten-year period, daily cell phone usage increased by approximately 460%.

So, looking at both of those studied facts, what the hell are we doing?

Now, I do understand the reason why we enjoy our screen usage. I get to stay in touch with my best friends who are all stretched across the United States. I also understand that we have wayyyyyyyyyyy overdone it, and I could have done the same thing with a landline phone.

To the point where the internet and ChatGPT are replacing people from reaching out and building relationships with skilled, educated, licensed professionals for opinions, support, and answers.

Also, to the point where the internet and ChatGPT have also created adolescents and adults to literally not know how to engage in human-to-human interaction.

…..AI is also storing your information, skewing responses to you, and very much NOT protecting your privacy.

Private Pay therapists though? We do protect your privacy.

My problem with ChatGPT being used as a therapist is not just because of the computerized nature, the lack of human interaction and depth, that it cannot guarantee data privacy along with the rest of what we do on the internet, purely predicts human language rather than understanding human emotion, is solely a people-pleasing design, stunts emotional growth, increases emotional dependence and social withdrawal, auto generates answers, lacks clinical judgement being brought into the picture, oh, and the fact that it has many lawsuits for suicides.

It is the simple fact that people are replacing their faith in their own ability to find answers, process fears, and find solutions. And instead, giving it away in a simple few clicks of their fingers. Then, trusting those solutions developed with a robot and thinking it is the very best way to go. How can this possibly increase your self-confidence?

Lastly, please parents, let’s get those kids off of those screens, please.

This epidemic is breaking my heart.
