Why am I uncomfy?

Disclaimer: this post took me a MONTH to finish. The post-holiday slump is real! We were all excited, or pretended to be excited, for the last few months. It’s the new year. The excitement is over.

Now that it is all over, and it’s all quiet, why are we so incredibly tired?

First and foremost, let’s validate your exhaustion. We just came off of months of societal excitement. Serotonin was bursting through the television, social media, people’s front yards, the radio, etc. Now, whether we created the quiet or not, it is just…quieter.

Instead of judging the feeling we have when things are quiet…

What if we embraced it?

During my sessions with my clients, I often encourage slowing down, silence, and being still. Why?

Because when we do not make those pockets happen, we end up running off of fumes.

And…when it is time to slow down (or when you are forced to slow down), it is going to feel weird.

Like a bad-weird.

So, how do I create pockets of time?

Ok, hear me out.

I am not talking about starting mindfulness meditation right away. I am not even asking you to jump totally out of your comfort zone.

I am asking you to create teeny, tiny, little pockets of being still. Being present. Being quiet.

  • Eat breakfast at the table, alone, without any sound or screens.

  • Step outside and observe for a short time.

  • Lay in your bed, quietly, for ten minutes and feel how your body is responding to the day.

Just like with anything else, we do not expect someone to jump right in - we do not know the water temperature, how fast the current is, or what it feels like to be in the pool.

I am asking you to dip your toe.

Notice how that feels, get comfortable.

Or maybe, get a little uncomfy…and sit with it for a little while.

Reach out. I would love to help you on this journey.
